Christopher "Rocky" Campione

Manager, Government Strategy

Christopher "Rocky" Campione joined Planet Technologies in February of 2009. At Planet, he advises senior government officials in the executive and legislative branches, energy industry executives, and non profits on cyber security and national security issues. He is a cyber security contributor to foxnews.com, and is regularly quoted in academic and media articles regarding the cyber security threats to our country.

Rocky came to Planet Technologies from the Department of Energy where he served as senior advisor to the Deputy Secretary in this capacity he functioned as the chief of staff to the Deputy Secretary and focused on national security and Departmental Administration issues.

Prior to this role, Rocky held the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security where he was dealt with issues pertaining to cyber security, the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, and the Office of Health, Safety, and Security (HSS). Mr. Campione also served as the Senior Advisor to the Department of Energy's Chief Information Officer.

Throughout his career, Mr. Campione has championed information technology in both the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. Government as well as the entertainment industry – he designed, developed, and supported information technology systems and applications for the Senate Budget Committee, Senator George V. Voinovich, and Senator George Allen; he worked on a television show for NBC and Universal Studios in Hollywood, CA; and, he worked for the U.S. Department of State on the G8 Summit in Sea Island, Georgia.

Mr. Campione's current interests are focused on how large IT organizations protect their environment. In exploring these interests he has spoken to industry, academia, and government on topics that range from improving organizational risk management processes; changing the cyber security protection paradigm from one that is network based to one that is data centric; and, educating government policy makers on the complex issues involved in cyber security protection.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Mr. Campione graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and History, and he has a Master's of Science degree from George Mason University in Technology Management. He currently resides in Alexandria, VA where he spends his free time keeping up with his children and being active in political campaigns.
